Tessie's Bar & Kitchen

Inspired by family, vintage Red Sox photography, and a love of well-crafted burgers - Tessie’s Bar & Kitchen is quickly becoming a well-loved staple in the center of Walpole, MA (a suburb of Boston).

The McAuliffe family is an experienced entrepreneurial family with 2 previous successful restaurants; The Raven’s Nest and the Mad Raven. They wanted to open a special place that felt very different from their previous restaurants, offering something totally new to the area with quality and the comfortable welcoming environment that their other restaurants are known for.

Maura McAuliffe and I first connected for logo design. At this point, the interior of the restaurant and the menu were both in the process but there were a few decisions that were sure - there would be vintage black and white Red Sox photography on the walls, they would serve artisan burgers, and they wanted a comfortable family feel - not a sports bar feel.

We dove into the logo design, starting with inspiration pages to figure out just what kind of feel she was imagining. The whole family got involved, providing feedback and ideas - but we kept focused by making sure to consider the uses from menus to signage to social and everything in between. After a few rounds of edits, we landed on the perfect blend of simple and stylish - with a hint of baseball…
